The Kitchy Kitchen

This baby pink concoction might seem like an odd choice for my husband’s birthday cake, a husband who is half bear and half lumber jack outwardly, but Jonah Hill’s character from Money Ball on the inside. I wasn’t even sure if he liked strawberry milkshakes (he doesn’t, but loves this cake). But this frosting was so good, so spoonable, so bottom of the bowl lick-able, that I felt compelled to make it for him. I paired the frosting with my Aunt Tina’s buttermilk cake, and it indeed tastes like a strawberry milkshake. For extra fun, I topped it with giant scoops of ice cream and a straw. Craig was pretty incredulous at first, but after two slices, it was announced that he enjoyed this cake almost as much as Devil’s Food Cake with Seven Minute Frosting, his absolute favorite, and probably the reason he married me. It’s a good reason. Access to good cake is foundation level stuff for a successful marriage, I hear.

I want to try this recipe with blackberries next spring, and maybe fresh plums in the summer. It could be my new favorite thing. Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS (BUTTERMILK CAKE):

For 1 double layer 9-inch cake

1 tablespoon baking powder

8 ounces unsalted butter, room temperature

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 350 F with rack in center of oven. Grease two 9-inch x 2 inch cake pans. Then line the bottoms of the pans with parchment or wax paper, then grease the paper.

In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt together. In the bowl of your electric mixer, with the paddle attachment, (or with a hand mixer) beat the butter until soft and creamy and gradually add the sugar and beat until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes). Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the vanilla extract and beat until combined. With the mixer on low speed, alternately add the flour mixture and buttermilk, beginning and ending with the flour.

Evenly divide the batter between the two prepared pans, smoothing the tops. Bake 25-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean and the cake springs back when pressed lightly in center.

Place the cakes on a wire rack to cool, in their pans, for about 10 minutes. Then invert the cakes onto a greased rack. Remove the parchment or wax paper and re-invert cakes so that tops are right side up. Cool completely before frosting.

With a bread knife, gently cut the center of the cake layers, creating 4 thin layers. To decorate, place a cake layer on a cake platter, and top with about 2/3 cup frosting, enough to make a hefty 1/4 inch layer when spread. Spread almost to the edges and gently add the next layer, no need to press. Keep layering until you have 4 layers. Put a few cups of frosting on top of the cake, and with an off-set spatula or butter knife, spread the frosting from the top to the sides, turning the cake platter to help you cover the entire cake. Add frosting, smoothing with your spatula, until you have a 1/2 inch layer over the entire cake (or more, if you prefer).

To serve, top with a few scoops of strawberry ice cream and a straw. Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS (ITALIAN BUTTER CREAM FROSTING):

1/2 cup fresh strawberry pulp

1 3/4 cups sugar, plus 2 tablespoons

1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar

1 1/2 pounds (6 sticks) unsalted butter, chilled (doesn’t need to be rock hard)

1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

1/2 cup finely smashed strawberries

DIRECTIONS:

To smash the strawberries and create the pulp, de-stem and quarter strawberries, and place in a plastic bag. Close the bag, pressing out the air, and smash with your fingers until a fine pulp.

In a small saucepan over medium heat, bring sugar and 1 cup water to a boil. Continue boiling until syrup reaches 238 degrees on a candy thermometer (soft-ball stage).

Meanwhile, place egg whites in the bowl of a standing mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, and beat on low speed until foamy.

Add cream of tartar, and beat on medium-high speed until stiff but not dry do not over beat.

With mixer running, add syrup to whites in a stream, beating on high speed until no longer steaming, about 3 minutes. Add butter bit by bit, beating until spreadable, 3 to 5 minutes beat in vanilla, and salt. If frosting curdles, keep beating until smooth. Add the strawberry pulp and mix. The pulp should be a very pale pink, and taste like fresh strawberries. Fold in smashed strawberries.

It’s not surprizing that my easy blender milkshake recipes have become a favorite for many people, the strawberry milkshakes are so simple to make in your blender… And they taste great to!

The Basic Strawberry Milkshake Recipe

I prefer to use frozen strawberries in this particular milkshake, the frozen strawberries make the milkshake thicker and colder than fresh ones and they still have lots of natural goodness in them.

You will need:

  • 2 scoops of vanilla or strawberry ice cream.
  • 1 cup of milk.
  • 6 fresh strawberries or 1/2 a cup of frozen strawberries.

Method:

Put all the ingredients into the blender and blend together until smooth then pour into a large glass and add more strawberries on top to decorate.

You can change the recipe to suit your needs and you can add more strawberries or ice cream in the mix to suit your tastes. You might even add a banana to give your milkshake a creamier texture.

The beauty of making your own milkshake is you have total control of what’s included.

Strawberry and Banana Milkshake Recipe

The banana in this milkshakes gives it a lovely creamy texture, throw in a handful of fresh strawberries, 2 scoops of ice cream and a half cup of milk and you get a great fresh fruit milkshake.

You will need:

  • 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream.
  • 1/2 cup milk.
  • 1/2 cup frozen or fresh strawberries.
  • 1 banana.

Method:

Add all the ingredients to the blender and blend until smooth.

The Ultimate Strawberry Milkshake Recipe

The ultimate starwberry milkshake may look a little pasty but it’s bursting with sweet strawberry flavour.

I’ve used homemade ice cream here, but any strawberry ice cream is going to taste good in this milkshake!


Directions

Make chocolate flavor of milkshake by blending ½ cup of Häagen-Dazs chocolate ice cream with ½ cup milk

Fill a clear glass one-third way full, place in freezer for ten minutes.

Make the vanilla flavor of the milkshake by blending ½ cup of Häagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream with ½ cup milk and ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract. Add to the semi-frozen first flavor glass.

Make the strawberry flavor of the milkshake by blending ½ cup of Häagen-Dazs strawberry ice cream with ½ cup milk and remaining vanilla or almond extract.


How to Make a Strawberry Milkshake

  1. In your blender, you’ll combine ice cream, strawberries, a little sugar, and milk, and blend until smooth.
  2. Pour into a chilled glass, top with whipped cream, and enjoy!

Fresh or Frozen Strawberries for a Strawberry Milkshake?

Either fresh or frozen berries work just fine in a milkshake. You’ll get a thicker, frostier shake with frozen berries, but your blender might also struggle a little more blending them.

To help things blend more easily, if using frozen berries, scoop your ice cream into the blender and let it sit at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes, until it just starts to melt, before adding the rest of your ingredients and blending.

If your blender is still struggling, give it another few minutes or add just a bit more milk until it blends without trouble.

The 3 ingredients you’ll need are:

Frozen Strawberries – I like using frozen berries because they create an ice cold, creamy drink without the need to carb loaded ice cream.

It’s up to you how many strawberries you’d like to include in your drink, depending on how many carbs you’d like to allocate to your sweet treat.

Almond Milk – you can include whatever low carb friendly milk you usually include in your diet. Just be sure it’s unsweetened and doesn’t have any fillers or added carbs.

Cream – any cream will do in this smoothie, it’s included to add creaminess and healthy fats.

Optional Extra Ingredients – you can add in stevia or vanilla for flavor and sweetness. For added protein you could also add a scoop of low carb protein powder.

Keto Strawberry Milkshake Recipe

  • 1 Cup Almond Milk
  • 1/4 Cup Cream
  • 1/2 to 1 Cup Frozen Strawberries
  1. Place all of the ingredients into a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth and creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides to help the milkshake along, if needed.
  3. Pour into a glass and enjoy.

You can enjoy your milkshake as is or topped with a generous swirl of whipped cream.

You could also grate over a square of keto friendly chocolate for an extra indulgence topping.

1. Yummy Strawberry Milkshake:

You Will Need:

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 5 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • 6 strawberries, chopped
  • 10 ice cubes
  • 1/4th cup of sugar
  • 6 ounces of strawberry crush
  1. Add water, milk, sugar, and strawberry crush to the blender jar. Blend for a minute.
  2. Now add vanilla ice cream, ice cubes and strawberries. Blend again and serve the yummy strawberry milkshake recipe for kids.

2. Chocolate Flake Shake:

You Will Need:

  • Caramel ice cream sauce
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • 1 banana, mashed
  • 3 chocolate flake bars
  1. Blend milk, banana, caramel sauce and ice cream in a blender.
  2. Pour the milkshake into a tall glass and garnish with grated chocolate.

3. Peanut Butter And Chocolate Shake:

You Will Need:

  • ½ cup of milk
  • ¾th cup of sugar
  • 2 ounces of baking chocolate, grated
  • 1 Tbsp of vanilla essence
  • 2 cups of ice cubes
  • ½ cup of peanut butter
  1. Put all the ingredients into a blender jar and churn until smooth.
  2. Garnish with grated chocolate and serve delicious chocolate milkshake recipe for kids.

4. Strawberry And Banana Milkshake:

You Will Need:

  • 2 cups of cold milk
  • 1 cup of strawberries, chopped
  • 4 Tbsp of sugar
  • 4 ice cubes
  • 2 bananas, chopped
  1. Add the milk, bananas, strawberries, ice cubes, and sugar into a blender jar. Churn well until smooth.
  2. Pour into a glass and serve immediately.

5. Corn Cereal Milkshake:

You Will Need:

  1. Soak the cereals in the hot milk for 30 minutes.
  2. Strain and then freeze in an ice cube tray.
  3. Blend the milk cubes with the vanilla ice cream. Serve immediately.

6. Lemon Milkshake:

You Will Need:

  • 1 cup of milk
  • 2 Tbsp of sugar
  • 1 medium sized banana
  • 3 Tbsp of lemon concentrate
  • ½ cup of vanilla ice cream
  • 1 cup of ice cubes

7. Oreo Cookie Milkshake:

You Will Need:

  • A packet of Oreo biscuits
  • 3 cups of vanilla ice cream
  • ½ cup of milk
  • ¼th cup of chocolate syrup
  1. Crush the Oreo biscuits coarsely.
  2. In a blender jar add all the ingredients. Churn until smooth.

8. Cinnamon Milkshake:

You Will Need:

  • ½ Tbsp of vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of cold milk
  • ¼th Tbsp of cinnamon powder
  • Nutmeg powder, to taste
  • 2 cups of vanilla ice cream
  1. Put all the ingredients, except the nutmeg powder in a blender jar. Churn until smooth.
  2. Pour the shake into a tall glass and garnish with nutmeg powder.

9. Orange Shake:

You Will Need:

  • 2 cups of frozen yogurt
  • ¾th cup of non-fat milk
  • ½ cup of orange juice concentrate
  • 2 Tbsp of ground flax seeds
  1. Put all the ingredients in a blender jar. Churn until smooth.
  2. Pour into glasses and enjoy the delicious milkshake with your kids.

10. Vanilla And Cherry Milkshake:

You Will Need:

  • 2 cups of milk
  • 4 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • ¼th cup of crushed almonds
  • 1 Tbsp of vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of frozen cherries, pitted
  1. In a blender jar, add all the ingredients. Churn until smooth.
  2. Pour into tall glasses and serve chilled.

  • Strawberries: You can use either fresh or frozen strawberries. Summer is the best season to get some beautiful red strawberries that would make the best strawberry milkshake.   • Vanilla ice cream: You can use many varieties for ice cream including vanilla bean ice cream or vanilla bean frozen yogurt.
  • Milk: I usually use whole or 2% milk to make milkshakes.

  • 1 Place the main ingredients in a blender and blitz until smooth.
  • 2 Swirl syrup around glass, add straws, and pour in the blended shake.
  • 3 Top with whipped cream and garnish with syrup and extras.
  • 4 Serve with our classic American burgers, and a retro flourish.
