Rare Jackets Worn By Beatles in Help! All Set For Can't Buy Me Love 50th Anniversary Auction

Rare Jackets Worn By Beatles in Help! All Set For Can't Buy Me Love 50th Anniversary Auction

The 50th anniversary of the release of Can't Buy Me Love is coming up on March 20, and to celebrate the occasion, Omega Auctions is holding a one-off auction for all you Beatles collectors. Included in the some 200 offerings will be rare vinyl and a wide array of memorabilia, but the real star of the event are the jackets worn by George Harrison and Ringo Starr in the 1965 film Help!, which they also wore on the cover of the film's soundtrack album.

Help! (which was directed by Richard Lester) follows the band as they go up against an evil cult, eventually running away to the Austrian Alps to hide out. The rare jackets, which were worn "throughout the five days of filming in the Alps," come from the Lester's private collection and are expected to pull in between $82,000 and $115,000.

“As Beatles clothing goes these have got to be amongst the Holy Grail for any Beatles collector. They feature on one of their most recognizable album covers and I have a feeling these could really fly off the block!” says auctioneer Paul Fairweather. “The coats are tailored and very stylish and if I had the money to afford them I would wear them without hesitation.”

According to Rolling Stone, another notable item to be auctioned is a chunk of wall from The Ed Sullivan Show that was signed by the entire band in 1964. Their talk show appearance came on the first night of their epic three-day American debut, and the piece of wall is expected to bring in between $800,000 and $1 million.

When talking with the music magazine last month, Ringo reminisced about their first trip to America, saying, "It was Ed Sullivan, and it was a big show, and we didn't know while we were playing that 70 million people were watching, but it was being in America that was so exciting. All the music we loved was in America; it came from America to England. Where we come from, Liverpool, it was great because it was a port, so all of the guys from New York would bring the tracks over. Vinyl in those days, the LPs, and it was just great. I could feel the buzz, even on the plane, it was so exciting. I went, Aaaaah!"

The auction will not only be live at the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool, but it will also be broadcast over the internet so you can bid on items no matter where you are in the world. A catalog will become available on February 28.

Todd Rundgren Initiates New Philanthropic Foundation

It is with great honor and enthusiasm that, on Todd’s behalf, we announce the formation of The Spirit of Harmony Foundation, his vision for continuing, escalating and expanding the work ignited by his global fan base. To date, the charitable endeavors of Todd and his fans have been informal, however, inspired by the collective experience in support of the Youth Orchestra of the Lower 9th Ward, June 19, 2013, plans began to take shape for a formal not-for-profit organization.

As President and Founder, Todd signed the Articles of Incorporation on October 24, 2013 in Los Angeles, along with co-founders Ed Vigdor and Jean Lachowicz. Co-founder, Michele Rundgren, adds her indomitable spirit to The Foundation. The corporate entity has been established and the application for formal recognition as a tax-exempt charity is being processed.

The vision of The Spirit of Harmony Foundation is rooted in the conviction that music plays an essential role in our human experience and that music education plays a crucial role in the positive development of young people in areas of critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity: individuals and groups alike.

The Foundation will leverage Todd’s philanthropic inclinations and recent professorial activities, as well as his vision, talent, celebrity and professional resources. With his leadership and starting with the enthusiastic support of the global fan family, as well as colleagues, the foundation’s goal of supporting and nurturing programs and individuals that embody the Mission of the Foundation will be realized. There will be abundant opportunities for everyone who wishes to participate through hands-on activities, special events, donations, and much more.

It is Todd’s desire that his fans and family be the first to be informed about this exciting new chapter, however the mechanisms of the foundation and our website are still under construction, not ready to be introduced to the general public. Todd plans on making a formal public announcement of the Foundation’s Kick-Off at the NAMM Convention, in January, when he receives The Les Paul Award.

Something/Anything as part of its exclusive online only InTheStudio:MEDIUM RARE Series. Even before the February 1972 release of Rundgren’s third solo album Something/Anything, Todd was being hailed by some rock critics as a wunderkind, that rare combination of left-brain creative and right-brain analytical talents, able to write charming pop lyrics, blessed with an innate ability to play practically any musical instrument, while adept at understanding and utilizing the technical intricacies of the modern recording studio. Something/Anything would have been a monumental achievement under any circumstances, yet Rundgren admits, in this interview with InTheStudio host Redbeard, to neither reading nor writing music!

ANNOUNCING RINGO STARR & HIS 13th ALL STARR BAND

Featuring Steve Lukather (Toto), Gregg Rolie (Journey, Santana), Richard Page (Mr. Mister), Todd Rundgren, Mark Rivera and Gregg Bissonette

Today Ringo Starr announced his 13th All Starr Band, which will launch June 14, 2012 from Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, Ontario and conclude July 21, 2012 at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, California. New to the All Starrs are Steve Lukather (Toto) and Gregg Rolie (Santana & Journey) who will join All Starr alumni Richard Page, Todd Rundgren, Mark Rivera, and Gregg Bissonette.

The tour is being produced by Dave Hart and as always fans can expect to hear a jukebox worth of hits. Ringo classic’s such as “It Don’t Come Easy”, “Photograph”, “Little Help From My Friends”, “Yellow Submarine” and “Wings", from Starr’s just released 17th solo record, Ringo 2012 (Hip-O/Ume). All Starr’s hits include “Rosanna,” “Broken Wings,” “Hello It’s Me,” “Black Magic Woman.”

Thank you for reforming Utopia and letting us fans listen to this great music live. It was a treat for sure. The band played great but as we all know there was one key guy missing on the tour. RIP Moogy you were a unique talent. I know getting these guys together wasn't easy as they all have other jobs but the story can't end here. There is another guy who needs to be pulled out of his day job to make this band whole again. Calling Roger Powell, you are wanted on stage with the rest of Utopia. Todd I double dog dare you to do this again and blow our minds one more time. The Utopia stuff is so good. Even my cat sits right by the speakers when I put it on and cats are finicky. Ok, I have managed to work in dog and cat references into my plea. That has to count for something.

Thank you for reforming Utopia and letting us fans listen to this great music live. It was a treat for sure. The band played great but as we all know there was one key guy missing on the tour.
