These are lovely treats for the whole family. I like to eat them at their best, which is when they have just come out of the oven! I made this recipe using a cookbook but added more ingredients and altered it a bit.

IngredientsMakes: 14 flapjacks
- 200g butter or margarine (or a mix)
- 160g soft brown sugar
- 3 1/2 tablespoons golden syrup
- 450g rolled oats
- 1 banana
MethodPrep:5min ›Cook:25min ›Extra time:2min cooling › Ready in:32min
- Put the butter and brown sugar into a saucepan. Melt together on a medium heat. Then mash the banana and add to the recipe.
- Add the oats and make sure that they are all covered by the mixture. If you don't want to add all of the oats, you can use less.
- When all is done, grease a shallow baking tin, then tip in the mixture.
- Bake in a 180 C / Gas 4 oven for 25 minutes, or until the top is brown. Don't over-bake.
- After 25 minutes, take the flapjack out of the oven and cut into squares, large or small.
When adding the oats don't add them all at the same time.
If you haven't got a banana, then add chopped chocolate and cocoa powder, or add other fruits - strawberries, cranberries, dried apricots - after the oats.

Something else.it didnt state on the recipe when to add the syrup so i added it at the end, but can be added to the butter and sugar at the beginning x-31 Aug 2010

made these this morning and the kids loved them when making the recipe i did wonder if 1 banana was enough but trust me it is you can definately taste the banana they are very yummy and dont last long!!! brilliant for picnics pack lunches etc!!!-01 Aug 2011
