After the cake is ready, leave it to cool completely, then put it in the freezer for 2-6 hours (preferably for one night).

Using the edges of the baking paper, take the cake out of the mold, turn it over on a straight surface, then portion it with a sharp knife into small squares.

Store in the freezer in an airtight container.

My friend and I were talking about cake a few days ago. We both kind of get a kick out of the uproar concerning & # 8220box mix & # 8221 in the great cake debate.

She told me, & # 8220I am going to do cake mix for my next three recipes. & # 8221 I think it stemmed from an incident on her facebook page where someone had gotten quite upset about her use of a box mix. She never backed down from controversy and I love that about her! When I came across this recipe of Granny & # 8217s I knew I had to make it. Not only was it a box of cake mix, but a box of brownie mix! I can't think of anything more scandalous.

What kind of Brownies should I use?

Any flavor or variety of brownies will work! If you have nuts in your fudge brownies you'll have nuts in your brownie balls. Cheesecake brownies? Yum. Mint brownies? Yup! Go for it.

I have a ton of different types of brownies here are Joy Filled Eats and they can all work in this recipe:

I made truffles with the Caramel Macchiato Brownies and they were SO good. A hint of coffee, a hint of caramel, and lots of chocolate.

Peppermint Brownie Truffles

Don & # 8217t you just love 3 ingredient recipes? Especially when they taste so doggone good. I had no idea brownies, white chocolate, and peppermints could be so darn tasty but obviously Starbucks did with their yummy looking peppermint brownie cake pops! Peppermints aren & # 8217t my first candy of choice, they remind me of church ladies, along with butterscotch! But it totally works in this recipe and I wouldn & # 8217t change a thing! The peppermint adds that nice cool crunch and the white chocolate taste so creamy with the fudge brownie.

Scooping out the brownies for the truffles!

These peppermint brownie truffles are probably the easiest truffles I've ever made, yep even easier than the Oreo truffles. They make great little gifts or party treats.

Dipped in white chocolate and regular chocolate

I made these with white chocolate coating and regular chocolate coating and let me tell ya, to my surprise, the white chocolate was waaay better than the regular chocolate. Next time I won & # 8217t even fool with the brown chocolate but you might like it so give it a try!

I used a box of Duncan Hines Brownie mix and baked them according to the package for a fudgier (is that word) brownie (2 eggs) instead of the cake brownies (3 eggs). Be careful not to over bake because you want these brownies to be fudgy. That way they will hold together when you roll them into a ball.

Can I Make Truffles with Chocolate Fudge Brownies?

When you make these truffles, you will be using chocolate fudge brownies. You will be forming the truffle part of the dessert by making the chocolate fudge brownies into crumbs and then turn it into truffles. Using a brownie mix makes it easier to make the brownies and will save you time. You can certainly make your own brownies if you prefer.

Can I Make the Best Truffles Recipe using Cake

While using a brownie mix as the base for your truffles creates even more chocolate and richer taste than cake alone. However, if you only have chocolate cake or prefer cake to brownies it can be used. You can also use other flavored cake mixes if you like. While the chocolate and cherries go together perfectly, you can feel free to experiment.

How to Store Chocolate Covered Cherries Truffles

You can store your chocolate covered cherries truffles at room temperature and they will stay fresh for two to three days. If you store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator then chocolate covered cherries truffles will stay fresh for up to 7 days. These truffles can be stored in the freezer, in an airtight container or in a freezer bag, for up to 6 months.

Giving Crown Royal Cherry Brownies Balls as Gifts

Truffles always make a nice gift. Who doesn't love a chocolate ball of decadence? If you want to make these Cherry Brownies Balls as a gift, you will want to wrap them in a pretty cellophane paper or store them in a decorative box with wax paper. The wax paper protects the brownie balls while preventing the brownies form coming into contact with the box.

Another option to present these truffles as gifts is to use pretty treat baggies. Available in most cake decorating sections, you can find beautiful decorative bags designed especially for sweet treat gifts like these.

If you are giving these as a present, make sure that the receiver knows there is alcohol in the cherries, in case this is an issue for them.

Is There Alcohol in the Best Truffles Recipe?

For these truffles, the cherries are soaked in Crown Royal, which is popular whiskey. While baking desserts with alcohol in them will often cook out the alcohol and leave the flavor behind, that is not the case with this recipe. The cherries are not baked after they are soaked. The brownies that form the truffles are baked before using. This means that the alcohol that the cherries soaked up is still in the truffles.

Triple Chocolate Truffle Cake

3 cups Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
1 cup Milk Chocolate Chips
2 ounces White Chocolate Baking Bar
2 unsalted butter sticks, softened, plus additional for pan
8 large eggs, cold
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup heavy cream

Preheat oven to 325 & deg degrees F. Arrange rack in center of oven. Butter the bottom and sides of a 9 by 2-inch round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper. Melt butter and semi-sweet chocolate chips over double boiler until smooth cool slightly. Meanwhile, with a hand mixer or in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the whip attachment, whip eggs and salt on medium speed until doubled in volume, about 5 minutes. Gently fold, in thirds, whipped eggs into melted chocolate. Pour batter into prepared cake pan and place pan in water bath. Bake until the cake pulls away from the sides of the pan and is set in the center, about 40 minutes. Remove pan from water bath to a cooling rack and cool cake completely in pan. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. To remove cake, dip the bottom and halfway up the sides of the pan in warm water and run a thin metal spatula around the inside of the pan. Invert onto a plate to unmold, remove parchment paper. To prepare ganache, bring heavy cream to a simmer and pour over milk chocolate chips. Stir gently until smooth cool slightly. Pour ganache over top of cake and spread with an offset spatula to evenly cover. (There will be some ganache leftover.) Chill cake until ganache sets, about 30 minutes. To garnish, grate white chocolate bar on top of cake.
