Beyoncé Invests in WTRMLN WTR

Forget Lemonade, there’s a new fruit drink in town

WTRMLN WTR sources 800 million pounds of unused imperfect watermelons that would otherwise be discarded for its product.

Following the launch of her athleisure brand, Ivy Park, Beyoncé has announced her investment in WTRMLN WTR, which provides “clean, healthy hydration for active lives,” according to a release.

“I invested in WTRMLN WTR because it’s the future of clean, natural hydration; as partners, we share a simple mission to deliver accessible wellness to the world,” said Beyoncé. “This is more than an investment in a brand, it’s an investment in female leaders, fitness, American farmers, and the health of people and our planet.”

WTRMLN WTR is made of three ingredients: watermelon flesh, watermelon rind, and organic lemon. The company sources 800 million pounds of imperfect watermelons, or ugly fruit, to produce its product.

Regarding the partnership, Jody Levy, co-founder of WTRMLN WTR, said, “Beyoncé is aligned with many of our Company’s core values, especially our commitment to empowerment and passion to ‘seed change and spread liquid love’ among fitness enthusiasts. She is an inspiring human whose involvement will help educate the world about the importance of putting clean food and drinks into our bodies so that we can all be happy and healthy.”

Beyoncé Invests in Non-Lemonade Drink Company Is All About #WTRMLN Now

Beyoncé just invested in a drink company—and it’s totally unrelated to lemons. Instead, it’s WTRMLN WTR, which, as its vowel-free name suggests, sells bottled, #coldpressed, #natural, #noaddedsugar watermelon water. The company’s cofounder Jody Levy announced the news today, but wouldn’t disclose how large Bey’s stake is.

Naturally, some fans are drawing parallels between Bey’s “Drunk in Love” lyrics, “I’ve been drinking watermelon,” and her new venture. To those people, we direct you to Urban Dictionary before crediting Beyoncé with predicting the trend way back in 2013 (when the song first came out).

Beyoncé said in a statement that her decision to become involved with the startup has nothing to do with the fact watermelon is basically being hailed as the next coconut water (which means $$) and everything to do with making the world healthier: “I invested in WTRMLN WTR because it’s the future of clean, natural hydration,” she said. “As partners, we share a simple mission to deliver accessible wellness to the world. This is more than an investment in a brand, it’s an investment in female leaders, fitness, American farmers, and the health of people and our planet.”
