At a place named "La Sandwicherie" you'd think that your order would be clear and obvious. But the key component — the famous vinaigrette — finds an equally happy home on their off-the-menu chicken and turkey salad.

It's a behe-"mouth" of a salad, health-conscious, but with enough going on to keep it interesting to more than just the bikini-clad set. A dome of mayonnaise-laced chicken salad tops a massive bed of lettuce garnished with slices of turkey, shredded carrots, olives, tomatoes, onions, cornichons, and red peppers. Then, of course, to bring it all together is the vinaigrette — tangy, creamy, and with a kick.

You may have to save half of the salad for later, but the better suggestion would be to take home a bottle of the dressing so you can recreate the experience at home.

Ingredients

  • Thin Sliced Smoked Ham
  • Thin Sliced Pastrami
  • Thin Sliced Roast Beef
  • Sliced Swiss Cheese
  • Sliced Colby Jack Cheese
  • Hawaiian Rolls
  • Mayonnaise
  • Mustard

Carefully unlock the cardboard tray holding the rolls. Keep the rolls together. Using a bread knife, cut through the rolls to separate the tops from the bottoms. Layer meats and cheeses on the bottom roll halves. Spread condiments on top halves of rolls. Place the top halves of the rolls onto the sandwiches. Cut down and across to form separate rolls. Lock the cardboard tray back into place. Slide the sandwiches in the cardboard tray back into the bag and close up. Fill your cooler and add ice. Let&rsquos be real&mdashif we brought antipasto to the beach, it would either end up a.) covered in sand or b.) in a seagull&rsquos mouth. This flavorful sandwich takes the best components of antipasto and brings them together inside a soft ciabatta roll. We&rsquore talking salami, prosciutto, red pepper, and provolone&mdashslathered in a lemon basil pesto. It seems like a mouthful, but it&rsquoll disappear faster than you think.


Salad Cream

This creamy, tangy dressing is meant to mimic the jarred salad cream I grew up with in England, which I poured all over raw vegetables. I realize now that it’s a lot like a really liquidy version of the deviled egg filling I make at The Spotted Pig, with a little tarragon thrown in. If you’re making this for Salad Sandwiches, you might want to give some of the boiled egg whites a good old chop and pile them on the bread along with the soft-boiled eggs. No point in wasting.

Ingredients:

1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil

2 tablespoons red wine vinegar

1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1 very small garlic clove, roughly chopped

1 teaspoon Maldon or another flaky sea salt

A small handful of tarragon leaves, roughly chopped

Fill a medium pot at least halfway with water and bring it to a boil over high heat. Use a slotted spoon to gently add the eggs to the water, cook them for 10 minutes (set a timer), then run them under cold water until they’re fully cool. Lightly tap each egg against the counter to crack the shell all over, then peel them, halve them lengthwise, and pop out the yolks. (Reserve the whites for another purpose, like Salad Sandwiches, or for nibbling.)

Use the back of a spoon to force the yolks through a mesh sieve into a food processor. Add the oil, cream, vinegar, mustard, garlic, salt, and 2 teaspoons water and process until very smooth and creamy. Add the tarragon and process briefly. It keeps in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Ham Salad is a delicious appetizer or sandwich filling (perfect for holiday leftovers!) made with diced ham, relish, celery, and mayonnaise in 5 minutes.

Salads are some of the most versatile dishes you can make, since they can be paired with almost any main dish. If you liked my recipes for Chicken Salad, Tuna Salad and Egg Salad, you need to add this Ham Salad to your recipe box too!

My Ham Salad recipe is perfect as everything from an appetizer to a main dish, and is made with diced ham, mayonnaise, celery and relish. You can make it in around 5 minutes, and it stays good in the fridge for a few days so you can bring it with you to work for a quick lunch.

You can eat it the traditional way with a fork or, if you want a unique party food you can serve it over crackers. My personal favorite way to eat it is with Texas Toast as a sandwich! The extra thick bread makes this sandwich a guilty pleasure.

I love making new recipes with my leftover holiday ham! – if you have leftover holiday ham, use it for breakfast! I love making Ham Steaks or Eggs Benedict for after holiday breakfasts!

This is one of my favorite recipes because of how quick and easy it is to make and because you can use leftovers to make it. The best Ham Salad is made from your leftover holiday ham from Christmas, Easter, or Thanksgiving, but you can also use deli meat or the thick honey baked ham slices you can get at the grocery store. As long as you dice it up, any ham will work.

To make Ham Salad, take your slices of ham, leftover of otherwise, and put them into a food processor. You need to only use the food processor in pulses so that you don’t end up with meat paste. You want the pieces to look like large crumbs about the size of bacon bits or large peppercorns.

Then mince your celery into small chunks and pour them, the ham, mayonnaise and sweet relish into a large bowl. Stir everything together and cover the bowl, then put it in the fridge for at least an hour. You can definitely refrigerate them for longer, but definitely don’t take it out early if you want the proper chilled taste.


Masters Sandwich Recipes: Pimento Cheese, Egg Salad and Other Augusta Favorites

Behold the unsung hero of the Masters: amazing sandwiches that are as cheap and delicious as they come.

There is absolutely no reason why you can't bring the best of Augusta to your home this week as the 2013 Masters plays out before you on the TV. Sure, the azaleas aren't as bright and lush, but the food can be just as tasty.

Golf Digest reports the fare at Augusta is extremely affordable as you can see by the prices below.

Well, that does us no good because we are stuck watching live feeds from Amen Corner thousands of miles away. Now is not the time to fret, but rather the moment you get yourself to a store and pick up some of the following necessities.

Note: These recipes are not official Masters concoctions. Also, if you have issues with making a proper turkey and cheese on wheat, go ahead and slap yourself in the face one time for me. Thanks.

Pimento Cheese

I haven't had the great fortune of eating one of these bad boys, so I will go ahead and believe what a recent fan named Paul Clinton told USA Today. "I'm not a big pimento cheese eater. But last year I had one here, and my mouth was ready for it this year."

This might not be the exact Masters recipe, but it sounds like the real deal.

Eight sandwiches should get you through day one. I would advise chasing all of them with a refreshing Arnold Palmer for added effect.

Tiny Test Kitchen provides a recipe below, because ain't nobody got time for videos.

1 cup Swiss cheese, about 5 oz, finely grated
3/4 cup American cheese, 4 oz, finely grated
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 oz pimentos, chopped with juices
4 slices white bread, we used Arnold Brick Oven white bread

1. Combine all ingredients but bread. Stir vigorously for 2-3 minutes. Apply half to one slice of bread, form a sandwich with another slice. Cut through the middle, into two halves. Repeat.

2. It really is as easy as that!

PlainChicken.com has you hooked up for an egg salad sandwich recipe they call the "Better Than Augusta Egg Salad," because it's not enough to make a damn good sandwich, you have to rub it in people's faces and scoff at their mediocrity.

6 hard-cooked eggs, diced
1/2 c diced celery
2 1/2 Tbsp mayonnaise
1 Tbsp vinegar
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/8 tsp pepper

Place the eggs in a single layer in a heavy saucepan and cover with cold water by at least one inch. Add a teaspoon of salt. Leaving the pot uncovered, turn the heat to high. As soon as the water comes to a boil, turn off the heat and cover. After 10 minutes, remove the cover and run cold water over eggs for one minute.

To peel, gently tap each egg against the counter, turning to make a crackle pattern. Start peeling at the broad end, where there is an air pocket.

To make the egg salad: Combine all ingredients and chill.

The last part of the recipe seems to be left out, which is to go take a nap. I am glad they left that out because then we have more sandwiches to consume.

Barbecue Sandwich

Try as I might, there wasn't much in the way of anyone duplicating or providing a version of this Masters classic. MY BBQ Blog did offer some pictures for those interested and gave a review that basically offered the sandwich was good but not great.

For those go-getters in the crowd, here is a recipe to create your own masterpiece. We went with beef instead of pork because sometimes you have to laugh at conventions and spice things up with anarchy. Now enjoy.

Masters Club

For those who have never tasted a club sandwich, we will have moment of silence for you.

Now, get yourself to the store and buy enough bacon for this recipe from Food Network. Now, go back out and buy more bacon.

The easiest way to ruin this particular sandwich is to over think the entire dish. The best club I ever had was basically a bacon sandwich with just a hint of turkey in there. In fact, I think I mumbled, "Hey, there's turkey in here" right before passing out.

Grilled Chicken Wrap

OK, you are making me sad. If you simply have to watch those ever-expanding curves of yours, we will humor your grilled chicken needs.

Here is a recipe for a Mexican version, but you can axe the salsa if you want to be completely safe and sensible. You probably look both ways when crossing the street too, right? Thought so.

Classic Chicken Sandwich

Rejoice, because the chicken sandwich has returned to the Masters. Augusta.com reports on the return of a classic and the reviews vary from amazing Chick-fil-A duplicate to a mediocre crunch-less mess.

We can solve that because we have a recipe that will have you moonwalking out of the kitchen with a sandwich so delicious you will almost forget there is a golf tournament on.

If you really need the recipes to these sandwiches, do me a favor and keep it a secret. I don't want anyone to know you are having trouble figuring out where the bread goes in a turkey sandwich.

Ham and Cheese on Rye — Any self-respecting foodie goes with Swiss cheese for their future scintillating sandwich. I will also accept Monterey Jack, but anything else and you are on your own. I won't vouch for your rebellious ways.

Veggie Wrap — You must be a blast at parties. Here is a recipe that should pair well with that Almond Milk smoothie you are drinking.

Turkey and Cheese on Wheat — See cheese recommendations above. Also, I would ask that you live a little and ditch the wheat for a less sensible but entirely delicious french roll.

You might also want to add bacon, which is good advice for any meal, really.
